How did you first discover Holmes Bespoke and why did you choose us?
Laylah is one of my closest friends; we lived together in our 20s, so I’ve had the privilege of watching her talent and entrepreneurship flourish over the years. Holmes Bespoke has grown into such an inspiring brand, leading the way into distinctive, market leading luxury.
When it came to choosing rugs for our Georgian home, the decision was effortless. The ability to create something truly bespoke made the process incredibly special, and Holmes Bespoke’s designs go beyond aesthetics offering style, creativity, comfort, and lasting quality. It was the perfect fit and choice.
What are your favourite Holmes Bespoke designs and how did you choose what to go for?
I absolutely adore the Shore collection. Its inspiration from India’s most beautiful beaches resonate deeply with me, as the coast and sea have always been a calm and joyous sanctuary for my family and I. The Anjuna design, which I’ve been eyeing for quite some time, immediately caught my attention with its bold and striking character. We wanted to make a statement, but also introduce a unique twist to our sizeable living room. After chatting with Laylah, my husband Stu and my family, we decided to transform the Anjuna into a semi-circle shape, giving the space a distinctive, quirky feature.
To ensure the rug worked in harmony with the rest of the space, we paired it with the contrasting Barcelona tapestry, strung on the wall above. The two elements now beautifully balance each other, creating a seamless flow and tranquil area to enjoy a good book or crisp glass of wine.
To compliment the Anjuna rug on the other side of the living room we chose a large Rachael rug in completely bespoke colours, introducing earthy browns, terracottas and creams to add a touch of warmth and create softness against our cold wooden flooring. This rug has become the landing place for us as a family to relax and enjoy the space together.
Could you tell us a little bit more about your stair runners and the reason for choosing these designs?
Our two runners are completely different from one another!
Charlie, the main runner in our entrance hall, was chosen not only for its practicality for standing up to the daily wear of a busy family home, but also for the impact it brings to the space. As the first thing you see when walking through the door, it was important for the design to complement its surroundings while harmonising beautifully with the rich chocolate and white marble flooring.
Leading downstairs to the kitchen, the Candy runner takes on a much bolder role. This space lacks natural light, so we knew we wanted something vibrant and fun to inject energy and brighten the area. The playful colours and pattern create a striking contrast against the simplicity of the plastered walls, which we paired with bright, modern prints to enhance the space.
After meeting with Laylah, and with a little encouragement, we decided to add a bold twist to Charlie, incorporating a thin trim of crimson along both sides of the runner. This subtle detail tied the two staircases together, creating a cohesive link while allowing each runner to maintain its own personality and function.
If you could choose another design to introduce into your home what would it be and why?
I’m absolutely obsessed with the new Hidden Gems collection, but Bronzite is the standout piece for me! This rug would bring incredible warmth and dimension to our morning room, which overlooks the garden and is bathed in the most beautiful morning light. It feels like the perfect piece to elevate the space creating a cosy spot for reading by day and a stylish setting for cocktails by night.
Were the team helpful when it came to choosing colours, shapes, sizes and materials?
Incredibly helpful! Laylah brought a wealth of advice and experience, along with samples and face-to-face time to explore every option in amazing detail. She encouraged me to be bolder and have confidence in my choices, and I’m so glad I embraced that.
Do you feel your personal style was incorporated into the designs?
Absolutely. Laylah and the team guided me through every step, exploring countless options while truly understanding my vision. With its grand proportions and high ceilings, our Georgian home needed warmth, balance, and a sense of purpose in each space, without losing impact. I’ve always gravitated towards bold, monochromatic tones, and that’s exactly what we achieved. Every piece feels intentional, blending comfort and character to create a home that is not only elegant but uniquely ours.
How long did you have to wait for your pieces to be made and if you chose to go ahead with their install service, how did it go?
It took 14 weeks for all four of our pieces to be made, but we were in no rush and the anticipation made it even more exciting. Absolutely worth the wait!
The installation as a whole was very impressive! The fitting team handled everything with such precision, especially when it came to the main and largest stair case, which had to be fitted around a corner and across a landing. Watching them hand cut and sew it flawlessly on site was very impressive, and they have done a truly amazing job!
Are you pleased with your final products?
Absolutely. Having Holmes Bespoke rugs in our home is nothing short of magical. The entire process was seamless, resulting in pieces that feel deeply personal and completely unique to us. These rugs haven’t just enhanced our interiors, but they have brought warmth and character, making our large Georgian house into a home. If you're looking for something beautifully crafted and entirely your own, there really is no better choice.
