Flatweave Rugs

A flatweave rug is handwoven on a loom, the vertical yarns (warps) are woven through the horizontal yarns (wefts). They are versatile, hardwearing and, with their simple construction and low profile, flatweave rugs are resistant to heavy foot traffic and are easily cleaned. In the world of interiors, flatweave rugs are the effortless cool kids that will instantly lift any room.

Rugs are key in creating a full and interesting space, and like all rugs, flatweaves help your floors feel warmer in winters and cooler during the summer. Flatweaves can be handmade in a wide variety of fibres such as wool, jute, linen or P.E.T. and the designs are limitless. Changing the height of the pile or using multiple fibres can create unique and tactile effects.

Flatweaves come under many different names including Kelims, Kilims, Dhurie, Navajo and Soumak and differ only slightly in their craft. Flatweave rugs are lightweight and have a lower, often reversible pile. Needing a rug that changes with the season? Flatweaves are considered one of the lighter rugs and are easily rolled up or folded away.
