On Sustainability
Sustainability is not just recycling, it’s creating a smaller environmental footprint. It’s about making rugs that follow the world’s best practices and push the boundaries of what’s possible in design. We believe that longevity is ultimately intertwined with quality and that a high-quality product should be made by the hands of craftspeople using local, sustainable materials.
Made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, found predominantly along the Indian shoreline, our hand-knotted Shore Collection is stain, UV and water resistant, lightweight and hardwearing. Each rug is named after one of India’s most beautiful beaches to honour the connection.
Creating a Smaller Footprint
We are all too aware of the disturbing environmental issues the world currently faces. A recent study by National Geographic found that 91% of all plastic ever produced was never recycled, representing one of the biggest environmental failures of our lifetime.
At Holmes Bespoke we are committed to being a part of the solution. We have minimised the use of raw materials and reduced waste where we can. Our artisans use traditional techniques and all of our rugs are made completely by hand.
Our Shore Collection epitomises our efforts to create a smaller environmental footprint. The collection comprises five bespoke designs, each available in three sumptuous colour palettes. Shop three popular sizes online or use our bespoke service to create the perfect fit for your space. Each piece is hand-knotted using 60 knots per square inch, this process takes 12-14 weeks from order to delivery. All our rugs are hand made to order so completely customisable, ensuring you get exactly what you envisage.
Plastic bottles are sterilised, dried and crushed into small chips. These chips are heated and passed through a spinneret to form strings of yarn that is wound up in spools. The fibre is crimped to create a fluffy texture then hand dyed and knitted, ready to be used to create a bespoke rug.
At Holmes Bespoke, we know if we make something right, we make it to last. There’s comfort in knowing that the choices we make now will have meaningful personal and environmental impacts for years to come.
There is something magical about the ocean. The constant movement and change, with rolling waves and daily tides, but also always remaining constant. The sound of the ocean, the smell of the water, the touch of the waves on your toes. Such simple pleasures, but all so amazing in their own way. By naming this new collection after some of India’s most beautiful shores, we wanted to bring tranquillity into your homes.
