The Shore Collection

Made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, predominantly washed up along the Indian shoreline. Each rug is named after one of India’s most beautiful beaches to honour this connection.

We are all too aware of the catastrophic environmental issues the world currently faces. Shockingly, a recent study by the National Geographic found that 91% of all plastic that has ever been made is not recycled, representing one of the biggest environmental problems of our lifetime.

Too many plastic bottles end up littering our seas, where they eventually break down into tiny pieces that are eaten by marine wildlife and enter the food chain.

At Holmes Bespoke we are determined to be part of the solution and so we are thrilled to be starting the year right with the launch of our new collection - The Shore Collection, made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.

PET yarn is hardwearing and easy to clean, offering a lustrous yet practical finish. It is water resistant and quick drying making it suitable for occasional outdoor use. It is also strong, lightweight and flexible, plus UV, stain, wrinkle and moth resistant.

There is something magical about the ocean. The constant movement and change, with rolling waves and daily tides, but also always remaining constant. The sound of the ocean, the smell of the water, the touch of the waves on your toes. Such simple pleasures, but all so amazing in their own way. By naming this new collection after some of India’s most beautiful shores, we wanted to bring tranquility into your homes.

Hexagon shapes shimmer through a misty painterly backdrop.

We love an ombre border and just how pretty is this hand painted design.

Reminiscent of sunset hues spreading across a scorched summer sky.

The collection comprises five painterly designs, each available in three sumptuous colour palettes; magenta sunset, ocean blue and golden sands.

Hand knotted using recycled PET yarn (polyethylene terephthalate), each rug is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.

The Shore Collection provides our clients with the option to purchase sustainable rugs, whilst not compromising on the quality or design process.

It is hard to imagine that hard plastic bottles, littering the shores of India can be recycled and repurposed so beautifully into PET yarn that is soft underfoot yet durable. How is this done?

  • The collected PET bottles are sterilised, dried and crushed into small chips.

  • The chips are heated and passed through a spinneret to form strings of yarn.

  • This yarn is then wound up in spools.

  • The fiber is then passed through a crimping machine to create a fluffy texture.

  • This yarn is then dyed and knitted ready to be used for your Shore Collection rug.
