Designed with you at our London HQ, each and every creation is handcrafted by our most experienced and skilled artisans, who take pride in weaving your story into a one-off piece of art.
The Process
Collaborate
A Holmes Bespoke custom-made rug usually begins with a piece of inspiration and whatever that may be, we will work tirelessly to achieve the look and feel you envisage. Entirely collaborative, we help match the colours to fit with your interiors scheme, determine the shape and size that best suits your space and select from an array of premium fibres.
Design
Once the vision is defined, our London studio transforms it into detailed designs. Scaled artworks and plan views are created, ensuring every proportion and motif is precisely mapped. If required, sampling can take up to six weeks. Final artworks and samples are then presented for sign off and production on your bespoke rug can begin.
Prepare
It’s all in the preparation, our expert artisans carefully begin washing, spinning and dyeing your chosen yarn. For hand woven and hand knotted pieces, a new loom is set up each time, before the yarn is strung onto the loom. For hand tufted rugs, our artisans will stencil the chosen design onto a piece of fabric which is then stretched on a frame.
Develop
Finally the hand tufting, knotting or weaving of your custom made rug can begin. Individual craftsmanship is really at the heart of this process, whereby our passionate artisans work on the bespoke rug from start to finish weaving your story into a one-off piece of art. This rug making process takes some time, but what you are left with is something incredibly special that is designed to last a lifetime.
Hand finish
Just like everything that comes before, the final touches are carried out entirely by hand to ensure that your made-to-measure rug is finished to the highest quality. Depending on the design and technique, the rug will be trimmed, sheared and bound, often with a hand stitched border. The finished rug will then be carefully hand washed and draped outside to dry in the sunshine.
Deliver
Each rug will pass through quality checks prior to being delivered to our London HQ and again once they arrive. Your rug is then packed with absolute care and delivered to its final home. For those local to us, in and around London, we partner with with Zhero Logistics to ensure that our rugs are delivered to you and installed with zero emissions and an unrivalled service.

Handwoven
Bespoke handwoven rugs are prized for their refined craftsmanship, timeless appeal and exceptional versatility. Handmade in patterns using fibres such as wool, jute, linen or recycled P.E.T. for outdoor use, designs can be geometric, linear or organic. Handtufted
Handtufted rugs are created by skilfully punching yarns through a fabric backing with a handheld tufting gun, enabling exceptional precision and versatility. This technique offers extensive design possibilities, from intricate patterns to bold, contemporary compositions. Our makers can combine multiple yarns and colours, transition between cut and loop pile, and vary pile heights to create rich, tactile effects.

Handknotted
Handknotted rugs represent the pinnacle of traditional rug making, with skilled artisans tying thousands of individual knots entirely by hand. Each knot contributes to the rug’s structure, while smaller knots allow for intricate detailing and refined patterns. This highly skilled, time-intensive technique demands exceptional patience and artistry.
